Diploma of Community Services &Diploma of Community Services (Child, Youth and Family Welfare)
Note: The Child, Youth & Family Welfare (specialisation C) qualification must be achieved in order to meet the minimum education requirements for child protection and youth justice practice in Victoria
This course does not have a ‘no fees’ option.
What is the course about?
The Diploma of Community Services at VACSAL is offered in two streams dependent on your desired employment pathway. Our Diploma is a Nationally Recognised Qualification.
This course/qualification aims to recognise and build on the skills of those who work in roles in community services, case management, social housing, family violence, and child protection as well as many other community focused roles.
These courses have 12 core units and 8 elective units. VACSAL clusters the units to avoid duplication of knowledge and skills development.

How is this course being delivered?
Workshops 1 day a week for 41 weeks (February to December) 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. There will be two-week midyear break (aligning with midyear Vic school holidays and NAIDOC week).
Supervised tutorials 1 day a week for 41 weeks to increase understanding course content and support completing assessments. Also known as catch up class based on the requirement of the student.
Each week you will need to spend about 5-7 hours in private study and completing some assessments.
Your workplace is another essential element to the delivery of the course as this will make up hours for your placement and learning outcomes.
If you are doing Specialisation C you will be required to do another 140 hours in a different work role (this can be explained more by speaking with the course co-ordinator).

Am I eligible?
Students must be 18 years of age or older
Students must currently be working in the community services sector and have at least 5 years’ experience working with individuals, families and/or Communities.
Students have (preferably) completed the Certificate IV in Community Services NB: Students who do not have a Certificate IV in Community Services may be accepted if they have 5 or more years of considerable work experience as a community services or health worker providing direct client services to children/young people, individuals and/or families.
Students must be able to attend scheduled workshops.
Students must be able to provide a current Police Check and Working with Children Check (WCCC).
